Sleep comfy with FPG’s new MARPACK
Forceprotector Gear, makers of the Marine Corps’ Seabag, have a new pack out that could have you sleeping in comfort anywhere from the desert to the tundra. Called the Marauder MARPACK it has a built in light-weight blanket and sleeping pad.
The pack evokes images of WWI Doughboys. While it is a sleek and modern, it carries a high-tech blanket strapped to the outside of the pack in a u-shape like those carried on rucks of yore. But this blanket uses the company’s thermashield blanket which is made of a space-blanket-like material sandwiched between to layers of weather resistant fabric. That means it can be used for shade, as a blanket in cold weather or even to wrap up a casualty going into shock.
On the face of the pack is a shallow pocket holding a built in sleeping pad. Constructed of closed-cell foam it not only provides some comfort, but it insulates Marines from hot or cold ground. And if you are planning on a high-speed smash and grab mission you can ditch the sleeping pad which is held to the pack by three easy snaps.
The pack’s namesake is the WWII special Army unit Merrill’s Marauders which terrorized numerically superior Japanese forces deep behind enemy lines in South East Asia.
