Geissele Super Modular Rail Mk2

The Geissele Super Modular Rail Mk2 beefs up the original Mk1 handguard design using sliding backer nuts instead of threaded inserts to mount modular 1913 Picatinny rail sections. This makes one of the most robust handguard rail systems on the market even more bomber, but it does add a little more weight.

FireClean Your Carbon-encrusted Guns

There seems to be a geyser that spouts gun-cleaning fluids as fast as the promises each makes. I make no claims regarding this new carbon-dissolving gun lube called FireClean except to say that it looks like it does break down carbon on contact using just a paper towel and some elbow grease.

There are two independently 360-degree rotating sections, fore and aft, each unlocked by its own push button that sits between the rotating sections. The system has stops every 45 degrees, and Ballista says the tolerances are tight enough to hold zero on an optic.

L-3 stressed that the system makes no alterations to the machine gun, whatsoever. The ARS is a drop in rail system that sits atop the feed tray cover rail on an M240. The rail is long enough to accommodate a pair of optics, shown here with a Trijicon SU-260/P and a new PAS13 thermal. If you look closely, you can see L-3 reached out to LaRue for some help with the mounting levers.

The coating process is an integral part of the part’s design, so if you plan on having your lower engraved as an SBR or with a custom logo, you’ll have to return the raceiver to MAG to be recoated. They told me the cost would be about $25 plus return shipping for the service.

DRD Tactical Paratus .308 Backpack Gun

The configuration shown is a 16″ 7.62 x 51mm midlength gas system gun that takes SR-25 magazines. The folding Magpul stock saves space but leaves no room for a traditional AR style buffer system, so DRD Tactical used a side charging handle, overhead buffer system. The gun was designed to fit in a 3-day assault pack and it does. DRD Tactical tells me they have a 5.56mm version in the pipeline with 6.5, 6.8 versions envisioned along with a special “necked-down .338″ cartridge that they are working up themselves.
