One of the perks of being the defense secretary of the most powerful military in the world is when you visit a foreign counterpart, they typically roll out the red carpet that includes a band and full honor guard.
That was certainly the case when U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta traveled around Europe last week. As you can see from the two videos in this post, Portugal and Spain put on quite a show for their American guest.

That’s not a show. At least not in Portugal. Guninea Bissau’s defence Ministry received the same in 2007 when he was here. The portuguese defence ministry assembled the same show even for Macao’s Governor in 2010. That is protocol in every militaru reunion that takes place in Portugal, independeltly of the “guest”.
