There are times when covering events of the day when you realize you’re in the presence of greatness, of history. Sure, there are lots of important people running in and out of Washington. Some personages are fabulously well known and others are barely noticed. And then there are those few who transcend it all, rising altogether to another level.
Hawaii’s Senator Daniel Inouye was one of those on a higher plane. A true legend long before he passed away Monday evening, he was the kind of person with whom you appreciated the opportunity just to be around. Here he is in 2003, at a reception talking with your correspondent.
