Apologies for the delay in getting to today’s “Vintage Friday” pick. The Defense News staff was busy chasing Sec. Def. Leon Panetta to and from New York in the last 24 hours (more to come in a later blog post).

Above is an early Holt tractor, the precursor to the modern American tank that first saw action in WWI.  The dicey terrain created a need for a vehicle that could handle surfaces others than properly maintained roads.
